Mosquitoes are a common nuisance in Zimbabwe, particularly around areas with standing water such as rivers, lakes, and marshes. The warm and humid climate provides the perfect breeding ground for these pesky insects, leading to high populations in certain regions. Mosquito-borne diseases are a concern in this country, with illnesses such as malaria, dengue fever, and Zika virus being transmitted by these insects.

Makgadikgadi Pan, located in Botswana but close to the Zimbabwean border, is also a hotspot for mosquitoes. The expansive salt pans provide ideal conditions for mosquitoes to thrive, especially during the rainy season when there is an abundance of water. Tourists visiting the area are often advised to take precautions against mosquito bites to prevent contracting any potentially harmful diseases.

Malaria is the most prevalent mosquito-borne disease in Zimbabwe and the Makgadikgadi Pan region. The country has seen outbreaks of this disease in the past, particularly during the rainy season when mosquito populations are at their peak. Government efforts to control mosquito populations and educate the public about prevention methods have helped reduce the number of malaria cases in recent years.
